Before I start I would like to thank our friends at ZAP for letting us inherit their superlative ‘lost’ recordings archive. I can tell you it took some doing (nothing a few whiskies and breakfast at Jock’s Greasy Spoon couldn’t handle!) but as we hope you agree, those ’70’s cats could lay down some seriously bad ass grooves (ref ‘The Lost station Tapes…’ for verification!) and what’s more, there’s plenty where that came from- so as Jimi would say, ‘ Watch out for ya ears!!’
Now, just a few words on production and design at Future Wizards…
A major coup for us was securing the involvement of fine artists Fantich and Young in the sleeve and label design for ‘The Lost Station Tapes 1971-73. Vanishing Point Vol 1’. This artwork has been specially commissioned from the artists and we can’t think of anything that could of conveyed the sounds contained in this records grooves more vividly. Brilliant! Once the finished art and design has been submitted to us we send it off to be printed, then on return each cover is hand assembled to order back at Future Wizards HQ (no bar-codes or factory production lines here!). The records themselves are pressed on top quality 180g black vinyl in a very limited run of 100 copies.
Our intention at this stage in regards to the release pattern of each title is thus:
1st (main) pressing- black vinyl with deluxe art cover- 100 copies (hopefully increasing to 300 in time), then possibly another limited run on coloured vinyl in a slightly altered presentation- to be released simultaneously with the following title. All of this is dependent on as yet unknown factors of course, but the general idea is to keep each release strictly limited and to move onto the next title as soon as we can.
As to our inaugural title, ‘The Lost Station tapes….’, this double vinyl record set has the added distinction of being, not only our ‘first born’, but also the only release (100 ‘promotional’ copies) that will not feature the Future Wizards brand name or logo. All releases from now on will have this logo so buyers of this particular pressing can be certain that they are not only acquiring a true ‘first’ but that it is also set to become one of our most collectible items!
So, to dedicated collectors everywhere-we hope you get as much pleasure from owning these extremely limited vinyl editions as we do from producing them!
